Snacking On: Carrot Cake Ice Cream

I love it when a random trip to a store results in a new-favorite-something. Like Lick's carrot cake ice cream I picked out at in.gredients last week. Such a perfect sweet treat for that in between summer and fall time in Austin. Just plain goodness.

They also sell a seasonal butternut squash ice cream that I need in my future...

A Place at the Table documentary

Our tiny and awesome neighborhood grocery store in.gredients hosted a free screening of the documentary A Place at the Table last night, which was quite moving and illuminating. I had never heard of the idea of food deserts in America, have you? The fact that America has enough food to feed everyone in the states but somehow doesn't (for all the reasons explored in the documentary) is mind-boggling. Ways that you can help can be found here.

in.gredients: A Package-Free Grocery Store

S: We just made our first trip to in.gredients. So impressed! It's a package-free grocery store that just opened a half-block from our place. When I run out of olive oil now, I can just take an empty bottle a few skips down the road and refill. If you knew how often I run out of olive oil, you would realize this is pretty major.

But today we settled for beer and potatoes. Look at this gorgeous thing we got:

Beer growler! We can take it back and fill it up for twelve dollars. TWELVE DOLLARS.

Here's a little bit more about the store I have already started to fall in love with and how it works:
